the artist i like: Jan Švankmajer

     Jan Švankmajer is a Czech artist and movie creator mainly of surrealistic theme, is known specially for his creative work in animation where he mix different techniques as stop motion and real image to create disturbing and suggestive decorate that can be interpreted in many ways.

    I discovered this artist when I saw a movie called “alice” that he directed and wrote, it was the story of “alice in wonderland” but with several particularities, like de absence of dialogue along the movie, so that the story is told through a mute acting of a little girl that is the only human character in the film, except for a woman that appear at the start for a few, the rest of the characters in the story are made by stop motion, a technique that consist in take pictures of a puppet or a doll in different positions and then put all those pictures together in sequence to create the illusion of movement, and that mixture of filming techniques is one of the things that I like the most of Švankmajer, because I think that should be very difficult to make seem fluid the interaction between a person and an animated stuff.
